INTRODUCTION
I welcome you all to Livingword Outreach Ministries, Ebenezer Assembly. This is the Arena of Hope and the Hub of the Supernatural. Your life will be transformed as you worship with us this morning. I can confidently promise you on the account of God’s eternal word that your life is not going to be the same again. God bless our online family who have joined us this morning on Facebook, we are very much grate. Please share this broadcast so others will be blessed. This morning I am starting a new sermon series titled “Killers of Hope”. For the past four weeks I have been teaching you on “How to be hopeful in 2022”. I want to be believed that you were blessed and you are well equipped to face 2022. I declare in the name of Jesus Christ that all your expectations for this year will come to pass. The Holy Spirit of God the Father and the Son will be your helper.
In the next four weeks starting from today, we will be looking at certain agents or enemies that that are seeking to frustrate, and kill your hope in Jesus Christ. Don’t forget that this year the almighty God has said to us prophetically through his servant our spiritual father, Rev. Emmanuel Lartey that, this year is, “our season of hope”. In view of this prophetic word to us, a lot of situations will arise in our lives to frustrate this prophetic word of God. But we must not give in to these killers of our hope that I am going to share with you.
*There are certain diseases that kills children at an early stage. We call it the six childhood killer diseases. So, children are vaccinated against these diseases so that they can live. This also exist for our hope in God. There are killers to our hope we must guard against in this season so that we don’t fall victim to them.
The first killer of hope is Unbelief (say with me, unbelief, again…)
Unbelief is our first enemy that we must defeat in this life. Failure to do so will be disastrous for us. It is an enemy of God that seeks to destroy and kill our hope in God (Jeremiah 29:11).
*Bible says that all things are possible to those who believe Mark 9:23
With God all things are possible
*Bible says that Abraham believe God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:6
WHAT IS UNBELIEF?
Unbelief in the Greek lexicon is “apistia”. It is the negative form of faith or faithfulness (pistis).
Apistia is from the Greek word “Apistos” faithlessness (disbelieving) i.e without faith (specifically a heathen – someone who is not a Christian)
Therefore, Unbelief is defined as a lack of faith. That is, you believe not, or faithless.
- Unfaithfulness
- Want of faith
- Weakness of faith
- It also means distrust, untrustworthiness, to be unfaithful.
Scriptures: Matthew 13:58; Mark 6:1-6; Mark 16:14
ORIGIN OF UNBELIEF
It came as a result of the fall of man. The man (Adam) God created was full of faith. He believes God readily, that was his make-up.
Genesis 2:7; Job 33:4; 1Cor.6:17; James 5:20; 1Peter 2:25

The spirit of man was created by God. He has all of God (that is the very essence of God). No unbelief in Him. He was god in the flesh.
The soul contains the mind, emotion and will. The more man fellowship (reading of the word of God, meditation of the word, obedience to the word, acting the word) with God, the more his soul was being trained. Romans 12:2
God’s knowledge was passed to the man (Adam) the more he got closer to God (fellowship and intimacy) his maker. Genesis 3:8 (God was in the habit of visiting the man Adam and his wife until the fall came.)
But the moment Adam and his wife disobeyed God by obeying the devil to eat of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, they fell short of the glory of God and His grace. They now became slaves to the devil (Romans 6:16).

The falling affected their spirit man and had adverse effect on the soul (mind, will, emotion) and the body (senses – sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch). Everything of the man became evil. Their obedience to Satan made them slaves to him. The fall also affected their believe system. This is because man became more incline to the voice of the devil more than the voice of God. Their ability and strength to listen to God became weak.
You see the more we hear God voice, the more we believe in Him. The man’s believe system became deteriorated, and began to accept the lies of the devil. This made man not to fully rely on God and believe Him. Adam find it difficult to believe God because of the lies the devil told him. John 8:44.
Beloved, listen, the only thing that corrects a man’s believe system is:
- The new birth (the spirit of man been born anew. 2Cor. 5:17; Ephesians 4:24; Col. 3:12; Romans 6:6
- The word of God. Hebrews 4:12; Psalm 119:130
Unbelieve is the greatest sin. John 16:9. Unbelief is Satan’s first-born child.
CONSEQUENCES OF UNBELIEF

Matthew 17:20 (Eg. In healing).
- Unbelief cripples the move of God in a person’s life, church etc. It will cause you to stagnate in life.
- Unbelieves hardens our heart. Mark 16:14

- Unbelief can make you depart from God. Hebrews 3:12
Unbelief can cause you not to enter into the rest of God. Hebrews 3:19; 4:6
